AHJF Jr. Hunter Challenge
In this class, junior riders competing at the non-recognized level are introduced to a hunter type competition that will emphasize and reward their ability to present their horse or pony. The riders from each region (one from East of the Mississippi and one from West of the Mississippi) accumulating the most points from their top three shows between now and August 31, 2008, will be named Regional Champions. They and an accompanying adult will travel as the guest of the AHJF to the Capitol Challenge Horse Show in Maryland to meet the sport's top professionals, participate in a behind the scenes tour and watch show hunters compete at a world level.
Judged on hunter showmanship, this class will be run as a 2-round event. The first round is to be shown over a course of 8 hunter type fences and include 2 changes of direction. The top 6 riders will return for the second round which will consist of six elements or fences that replicate skills required on an actual hunt and may include a halt, change of lead, hand gallop, or trot fence. Total scores for the 2 rounds will determine placings. This class will be offered at all 4 Summer Nights Shows. The winner at each show will receive a special monogrammed saddle pad.
